Denver

Pre-race. Please don't judge on the SIZE of my wet-suit. :)

Post race. We are much more relaxed!

So, I'm back from Denver. I flew in on Thursday afternoon. Friday EARLY (thanks for that Kelly) AM we headed to the pool to swim a bit. Wow! I couldn't breath. I guess the difference in altitude was enough to cause me problems. I was watching the pace clock as I was warming up, wheezing like mad, and deeply disappointed in how I was swimming, and it was just a warm up. About 1/2 way through my warm-up, Kelly stopped and said, "Oh yeah. Steph, this is a 25 Meter pool, not yard. That warmed my heart. :) At least I wasn't going as slow as I thought.

After our swim, we went back to Kelly's to nap. Then we drove out to Boulder Reservoir where the "race" was being held on Saturday. It had beautiful views, but the closer we got to the water, the more disgusted I was. It wasn't clear & clean water like I was hoping. It was actually pretty stinky and gross. Oh well.

The next AM we got up SUPER early to head to the reservoir. We were able to watch the sunrise as we prepared for our swim. I did the 1.2 mile race. I finished in just over 35 minutes. Kelly did the 2.4 miles (Yes, she's an Iron Woman) in 1:10. Amazing huh. She's my idol.

Since Saturday I haven't done anything physical. Well, except for test riding a road bike, which I am now in love with. If any of you ever talk to my husband, you should tell him it's okay to buy it. :)

The results are posted here.

  1. That sounds like a ton of fun! I really like the nap after warm up part. As for the gross water in the reservoir, I imagine the folks in Denver drink that water, so it must have been ok in some ways.

I am impressed that you swam that, and at that altitude it had to be tougher than swimming in your valley! I'm proud of you for keeping at it, and hope your legs get back into running shape soon.

As for the bike...I'll talk with Kale about that when out there and threaten to put him in a little bike trailer and pull him behind me down the long trail if he doesn't go take a look at why you want that kind of bike. I rode a $3,000 bike around the parking lot here and instantly found out why people buy them.

  2. Oh yeah, I did run 3 miles yesterday and it felt pretty good. The cooler weather helps and having not run or biked over the weekend, the body was feeling ready for it.

  4. Sure I'll give you swim lessons. I try and go to the Kroc center about 2 times per week to do a swim work out. I could meet you there. Just let me know. It'd actually help me. If I have to meet someone there, then I HAVE to actually make the trip to do it.
